Whether you’re moving from a cozy apartment to a lavish condo, a tiny shared room…
Moving in any capacity or sense can be arduous and difficult, but you would think that moving within the same town would be much easier, right? On the contrary, there are unexpected challenges you can face when it comes to moving across town. If you’re in the middle of relocating your home and your life within the same city or area, prepare for the following unexpected challenges you’ll face when moving across town.
3 Challenges That Come With Moving Across Town
1. Holding Onto Too Much
When you are moving out of town to an adjacent state or across the country, many people make the choice to purge their lives from unwanted junk. They clear out, sell, or giveaway a lot of the stuff they aren’t using and pare down for the move so they don’t have to take more time moving a lot of junk they don’t need.
When you’re only moving across town though, it’s so easy to just keep everything that you have right now. However, wouldn’t it make your life easier if you took some time to get rid of all of the things that you aren’t using?
Make sure that you block out some time far ahead of your move that to donate, sell or get rid of the extra stuff you’ve collected over time. If you haven’t used an item or worn something in a few months, that you should just get rid of it. Trust us when we say it’s going to make your life and your move, even if it’s just across town, a lot easier when you choose to get rid of things that you don’t need.
2. Throwing Your Move Together At the Last Minute
One of the biggest pieces of advice that we can give you when you’re moving across town is to set aside a lot of time to make your move. Don’t trick yourself into thinking that you can throw your move together at the last minute and move in a brief 24 hours – the odds are against you on that one. Plan on setting aside a lot of prep time to make sure that you have as much of your things prepacked as possible, before you start loading the truck and making trips across town.
Even if you are just moving down the street from your current house to your new one, it will take a lot longer than you would think. Once you start opening up all of the nooks and the crannies of your old home, you’ll find out that you have a lot more stuff than you projected. From moving massive objects like dressers, appliances and furniture down to the silverware, books and small accessories around your home, you may need to block out a weekend or a week to complete the moving process.
3. You Might Never Explore Your New Surroundings
It’s so easy when you move across town to keep going back to the places that are familiar to you. When moving across town, the good news is that you’re living in a new place, but can continue to utilize the same one that you left. The downside to that is that you’ll never get to know the new area that you have moved to unless you make an effort to do so.
Make sure that you take time to explore your new location, whether it’s down the street or on the other side of town. Go check out new restaurants in the area. Walk to a coffee shop that is close to your home. Check out some of the bars and nightlife spots that are around your new home.
Hiring a Moving Company
Since moving to the same town is no walk in the park, you may want to look into hiring a moving company to help you get the job done. Using a moving company can save you a lot of stress, time and hassle when it comes to moving, even if you’re just moving down the street.
